Overview

Both Takht-e Soleyman and Soltanieh Dome are world heritage sites located in the west of Iran.
Soltanieh Dome is located in Zanjan province. This double-shelled dome is the third largest dome in the world after the Florence Cathedral dome and the Hagia Sophia dome. The interior retains wonderful mosaics, faience, and murals. People have described the architecture of the building as “anticipating the Taj Mahal.”

Takht-e Soleyman is an archaeological site in West Azerbaijan. It includes the principal Zoroastrian sanctuary partly rebuilt in the Mongol period as well as a temple of the Sassanid period dedicated to Anahita. Takht’e Soleiman consisted of a fire temple called Azargoshasb in the Sassanid era which was one of the three main fire temples built around the lake located in the region. This fire temple contained one of the three Royal Fires that Sassanid rulers humbled themselves before ascending the throne.
