Overview
Tabriz is located on the skirts of the volcanic Sahand mountain. It was the second largest city in Iran until the late 1960s as one of its former capitals, and residence of the crown prince under the Qajar dynasty.
Tabriz contains many historical monuments, many of them date back to the Ilkhanid, Safavid, and Qajar periods. Among them is the large Tabriz Historic Bazaar Complex which is inscribed as a World Heritage Site in 2010.
