Departing Passengers
What are the customs rules and regulations for the goods of passengers leaving Iran? Departing passengers, whether Iranian or foreigner, as well as their personal items, can take along goods up to the legal limit if they do not have a commercial aspect.
Foreign nationals who officially work or study in Iran, at the end of their work or study period, are allowed to take their equipment out of the country without a license or business card.

Restrictions on the exit of Nuts out of Iran
Any passenger leaving Iran is allowed to take nuts. The maximum permitted amount of pistachio is 10 kilograms and 100 grams of Saffron per passport.
The export of pistachio, nuts and saffron is prohibited for Iranian travelers going to the three countries of Iraq, Syria and Saudi Arabia.

Restrictions on the exit of Carpets and rugs out of Iran
Handwoven carpets are allowed to be taken out from air, land and sea borders up to a maximum of 20sm. There are no restrictions on the number of carpet pieces if it doesn’t exceed 20sm.
It is forbidden to leave exquisite carpets that have historical value and are considered cultural heritage.
It is not allowed to leave the carpet with Iranian passengers to the countries of Iraq, Syria and Saudi Arabia. This limit does not include tourists who have foreign passports.
There is no limitation on the number of handicrafts and other Iranian products.

Restrictions on the exit of Cash & Currency out of Iran
According to the regulations of the Central Bank of Iran, each passenger is free to export cash up to 5,000 Euros (or its equivalent in other currencies, bank-note, traveler checks or a combination of both).

Restrictions on the exit of Gold and silver out of Iran
It is allowed to take personal jewellery of up to 150 grams of all kinds of gold artefacts.
Passengers are allowed to take out artifacts and silverware as gifts and souvenirs up to a maximum of 3kg if the objects are not antiques with historical backgrounds.

It will be allowed to carry saffron up to 125 grams out of Iran.

The export of antiques, original works of art, manuscripts and lithographic books, calligraphic pieces, miniature papers, all kinds of precious coins and any kind of historical and cultural heritage items is prohibited.

It is forbidden to leave Iran with weapons, ammunition and military equipment.

Restrictions on the export of Animals out of Iran
The export of birds and other pets is subject to the presentation of a health certificate from the veterinary organization.
The export of wild animals and birds will be subject to the presentation of a certificate from the Environmental Protection Organization.
Arriving passengers
Arriving passengers’ personal items, whether they are Iranian or foreigner, are generally exempted from paying customs duties if they are not commercial in nature.
They can import goods with a maximum value of 80 dollars duty-free once a year if the import is not commercial.
The personal belongings must be with the passenger, otherwise, those should be handed over to the transportation agency within one month before/after the passenger’s arrival.

Import Currency into Iran
Arriving passengers can carry up to 10 thousand euros or its equivalent currency. However, recently, importing any amount of foreign currency has been declared permissible, but for more than this amount, it is necessary to submit a currency declaration to one of the National Bank branches at the point of entry and receive a certificate.

Import gold and silver into Iran
Importing gold and silver in the form of ornaments is restricted in terms of quantity and weight. The entry of a maximum of 150 grams jewellery with passengers such as necklaces, bracelets, earrings, rings, bangles, watches, etc. is allowed.
The entry of excess is subject to obtaining prior permission from the Central Bank of the I.R.Iran.

Import Animals into Iran
The entry of domestic animals and birds is subject to the presentation of a health certificate from the country of origin and the approval of the veterinary organization.
The import of wild animals and birds will be subject to the presentation of a certificate from the Environmental Protection Organization.
The entry and clearance of live fish are allowed only with the permission of the Ministry of Agriculture.

The permitted number of cigarettes with a passenger is one box of cigarettes (200 cigarettes). Likewise, the number of cigars allowed will be 50. Regarding tobacco, currently, the allowed amount for each passenger is equal to 250 grams.

What is Iran’s customs regulation for vehicles?
The temporary entrances of passenger cars are possible as the following: Iranian and non-Iranians are allowed to temporarily import Automobiles by receiving the carnet de passage or Tripque booklets from the motoring centers in the original country. These automobiles should be exited from Iran when the permitted period (3 months) is over. Passengers who could not get the carnet de passage in the origin country should get the temporary admission license in the entrance frontier by putting a deposit or a bank bond on security.
